Kevin sleeps out for The Samaritans and Beacon House
Collier & Catchpole was happy to sponsor its Finance Director Kevin Sturdy in the “Big Sleep Out”. Kevin, who is a member ofThe Rotary Club of Colchester Forum, stepped up to the challenge to spend the night of the 6th May sleeping out in Castle Park. The event, which was organised by the Colchester Forum is expected to raise around £11,000 for two local charities: The Samaritansand its vision is to reduce the amount of people who die by suicide; and Beacon House, which offers a wide range of support services to the homeless.
The intrepid “sleepers” represented some of the cream of Colchester businesses. Doing their best to grab some shut-eye in pop up tents, cardboard shelters with some just sleeping on a mat, the fundraisers survived the night in spite of the unseasonal chill, supported with hot drinks, breakfast and even cake from the local McDonalds.
“Certainly ‘no walk in the park,’” confirms Kevin, “but I’m pleased to have done it. It is not just about the money but also raising awareness of both charities and the plight of the increasing number of rough sleepers we have in Colchester. I’m very proud to be involved in this event as part of The Rotary Club of Colchester Forum and appreciate the sponsorship of my work colleagues at Collier & Catchpole as part of its commitment to support local community projects.”
